Over the previous weeks we have discussed a myriad of health benefits you can receive from including coconut milk in your diet.

Coconut milk also contains phenols, which are antioxidants. Antioxidants help the body to fight and remove free radicals, protecting it from disease. Free radicals are produced by the body, as waste products, during metabolism and other processes.

Oxidative stress is caused by an imbalance of free radicals. Cells in the body also produce antioxidants to neutralise these free radicals, but poor diet and lifestyle choices, obesity and pollution contribute to oxidative stress on the body. Including ingredients in your food, which contain antioxidants, help to combat oxidative stress.

Coconut milk is a medium-chain triglyceride fat which stimulates energy in the body when included in your diet. We have discussed that coconut milk promotes weight loss, helps to prevent stroke and heart disease, supports the immune system, and studies suggest it could inhibit cancel cell growth.

Other studies on rodents show that, in combination with a high protein diet, coconut milk helps to manage cholesterol levels. If you missed the previous discussions on the health benefits of coconut milk, click below to catch up.

We have been looking at the health benefits of coconut milk. So far, we have seen that coconut milk increases insulin sensitivity which promotes weight loss, and that its antioxidant, lauric acid, helps to prevent stroke and heart disease, and supports the immune system due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Other studies on lauric acid have shown that it triggers apoptosis (cell death) in breast and endometrial cancer cells, suggesting it could inhibit cancel cell growth.

Last week we discussed that coconut milk is known to increase insulin sensitivity which promotes weight loss. There is also evidence to suggest that the antioxidant present in coconut milk, known as lauric acid, helps to prevent stroke and heart disease. Lauric acid, as a lipid, also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting the immune system.

Add coconut milk to your diet to support your health. Coconut milk is a key ingredient in my daily Power Tea.
